The Nile River
Although the Nile river flows from the Mediterranean Sea through Egypt and into the African countries of Ethiopia, Zaire, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Sudan, it is Egypt that is our focus for Nile River cruising.
The Nile is known as the longest river in the world and it got its name from the ancient Greeks – Neilos which means valley.
Nile River cruises begin and end in Cairo. Along the way you visit famous sites such as Luxor, Kom Ombo, Aswan and Edfu. And of course no stop in Cairo would be complete without a tour of the pyramids of Giza and the Sphynx.
The River Cruise companies offering itineraries on the Nile are: Uniworld River Cruises, AMA Waterways, Viking River Cruises and Scenic Tours.
They offer a number of different itineraries ranging from 8 days to 12 days that include extensions to Lake Nasser, or Jordan (Amman and Petra), or Jerusalem.
